2022 Mercedes C300

For this week’s review we’ve gotten our hands on the 2022 Mercedes Benz C300 and been fully redesigned to be a baby S-Class. Over the summer we got a look into the future of Mercedes products in the S-Class and this C300 is the first seeing that type of technology and design trickle down to their other products.

Disclosure: Mercedes Benz Canada provided me with the 2022 Mercedes Benz C300 for a week to test drive, and photograph. All photos in this blog post was taken by me. #MercedesBenzC300

ACCELERATION: 8.5/10

  • 2.0L inline-4 turbo

  • 255 HP / 295 lb-ft

  • Electric Motor 20 HP / 148 lb-ft

  • 9-Speed Automatic

  • 0-100km in 5.3 seconds

  • Power delivery is very smooth thanks to the mild hybrid system.

BRAKING: 8/10

  • 110 ft to stop from 60 mph to 0

HANDLING: 8.5/10

  • Handling is sharp and steering is instant

RIDE: 8/10

  • It doesn’t have an adaptive suspension system but it’s right in line with all the German options tuned towards the sportier side of things

ECONOMY: 9.5/10

  • 25/35/29 MPG (City/Highway/Combined)

  • The mild hybrid system really help with fuel efficiency

CABIN NOISE: 9/10

  • Pretty quiet thanks to the acoustic laminated glass

EXTERIOR: 9/10

  • I love the details with the exterior styling. The grill has little tiny Mercedes logos integrated into it

  • Overall styling is on the sporty side without going overboard like the last gen Type R

INTERIOR FOR DRIVER: 9/10

  • Inside has a huge wow factor with tons of technology and design similar to the S-class

  • When you start driving the C300 you’ll notice the smoothness and lack of turbo lag thanks to the pancake electric motor

  • Much of the controls are all done through the huge tablet. Overall quite tricky to use while driving especially when the steering wheel controls don’t register your touch half the time.

  • Steering wheel feels great to hold and it looks fantastic

  • Has wireless charging in the centre console where the drink holders are

  • I miss how there isn’t much physical buttons but it does look like this is the direction Mercedes is going for their next generation products.

INTERIOR FOR PASSENGERS: 8.5/10

  • 1 inch improvement for legroom from the outgoing model

  • Prominent hump in the middle

  • Seats fold down in a 40/20/40 fashion

  • Rear passengers get a sunroof to let in lots of natural light

INTERIOR STORAGE:7/10

  • 17.9 Cu Ft

  • Power lift trunk

  • Additional storage under the load floor and has a cargo divider there

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE 2022 Mercedes Benz c300:

The 2022 C300 successfully reclaims the benchmark for luxury compact sedans for Mercedes. It is more luxurious, more powerful, more efficient, more passenger space, more screens and more gadgets than ever before.

This is the first time a mild hybrid system has been put on a 4 cylinder MB engine. The electric motor really helps smooth out turbo lag and gear shifts.

The cabin is quiet thanks to the acoustic laminated glass. Finally Mercedes has amber turn signals in North America. BMW and Audi needs to take notes cause the red signal lights are terrible.

Overall the C300 is done extremely well. If you’re interested in the best luxury compact sedan in North America get this. If they release a wagon variant like they did for the last gen C300 in Canada I would be very tempted to buy it as my daily driver.
