2020 Mercedes-Benz E450 4MATIC Sedan

For this week’s review we’ve gotten our hands on the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E450 4MATIC Sedan. The E450 recently replaces E400.

Disclosure: Mercedes Benz Canada provided me with the 2020 E450 4MATIC Sedan for a week to test drive, and photograph. All photos in this blog post was taken by me. #MercedesE450

ACCELERATION: 9/10

  • 3.0L V6 Biturbo - 362 HP @ 5500-6000 / 369lb-ft

  • 9G-TRONIC (9 Speed transmission)

  • 5.0 second 0-100 km/hr

BRAKING: 9/10

  • Great stopping ability!

HANDLING: 8/10

  • You can have some fun in the twisties if you want

RIDE: 9/10

  • Hard to put it in words but it’s like riding on a cloud. it absorbs imperfections in the road very well.

ECONOMY: 8/10

  • 20/28/24 MPG (City/Highway/Combined)

CABIN NOISE: 9/10

  • Peaceful cabin

EXTERIOR: 8.5/10

  • There is a sparkly glitter look called stardust on the rear lights that look really cool when you get up close.

  • I wish the front grill has an options for a diamond grill like the coupe

INTERIOR FOR DRIVER: 9.5/10

  • Cabin is very classy. The design and comfort has a true luxury experience

  • The cabin design flows from one side of the vehicle to the other

  • Driver Assistance Tech works amazing for parking, you should have no excuse to hit anything

  • Fun to drive when in sport mode, if you want something even better check out the E63S or E53

  • With so many massage programs, it will make stop and go traffic more bareable!

INTERIOR FOR PASSENGERS: 8.5/10

  • Lots of legroom. Headroom is okay thanks to it’s relatively straight roofline

  • Comfortable seats

  • Rear passengers have a sunroof to let in more light. It would have been nice to see a panoramic style sunroom.

  • Middle hump is pretty tall and won’t make it ideal to have 3 adults in the rear

  • The cup holders are hidden in the arm rest. One flaw I realized with this design is if you have a drink in it, and you lift it up to drink it will go back into that closed state and you’ll have to manually open up the holders again to put your drink back. It would be nice if there was a way to maintain it’s open state to reduce a step

INTERIOR STORAGE: 7.5/10

  • 13 Cu Ft with the seats up

  • There is a hook in the trunk to latch. It might be useful to help hold grocery bags upright

  • If cargo space is a priority, check out the wagon as it has 35 cu-ft with the rear seats up, and 64 cu-ft with the seats down

INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM: 8/10

  • There is so much tech in the E450 you’ll need to ask someone at the dealership to give you a tutorial or read the manual! It might be overwhelming for non tech savvy people but I think most will embrace it!

  • Infotainment is really nice. Super easy to navigate with the swipe pad on the steering wheel. Personally I don’t use the center column control much because I like to keep my hands on the steering wheel.

  • Would be nice to have MBUX voice commands in the future!

  • Supports Android Auto and Apple Car Play

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE 2019 mercedes-BENZ E450 4MATIC SEDAN:

Mercedes-Benz E450 has the goodies of the S-class in a smaller and discounted price tag making it the leader in the class. If you want to get from point A to B in a luxurious way this is the car for you. And if a sedan style doesn’t suit your tastes, the E-class also comes as a wagon, coupe or convertible. There’s bound to be a spec for you. I personally gravitate towards the coupe because it gets the diamond grill and B-pillar less look but if practicality is something I was looking for I’d go with the wagon variant which offers a massive cargo space that can also be transformed into a 7 seater thanks to a fold-down rear facing third row.

If the E-class is too expensive but you still want the latest tech give the A220 Sedan or A250 Hatch a look. They have more advanced tech than the E-class. That being said the E-class tech is still amazing, it just lags behind the recently redesigned S-Class and all new A-Class that receives the new MBUX system.
